 Planning Services

CMT Planners work with airports and communities to develop concepts and plans that provide a decision-making framework for long-term development and short-term implementation.

• Environmental Planning- Aviation environmental planners and engineers provide the multi-disciplined expertise and experience to guide airport projects through environmental approval processes in an efficient and coordinated manner.



• Land-Related Services- Assisting airports through federally-funded land acquisition programs, CMT provides a wide range of services including professional staff representation to landowners, document processing, property map creation and land surveys.



• Funding and Programming-  CMT aviation staff work to develop funding programs and project justification packages that position airports to maximize opportunities and better compete for federal funds.

 Design Phase Services

CMT Engineers have in-house capabilities to design all aspects of airfield improvements. For 60 years, CMT has provided Construction Documents including plans and specifications for the design and rehabilitation of runways, taxiways, aprons, and roadways. 

• Pavement Design-  For over 25 years, CMT has provided innovative solutions to their airfield pavement challenges.  Past CMT projects include pre-stressed/post tensioned pavements, pre-cast pavement panels, recycling PCC pavement, Polymer modified bituminous pavement and use of the gyratory compactor for design and control of asphalt mixes.



• Runways, Taxiways and Aprons-  For over 55 years, CMT has provided plans and specifications for the design of runways, taxiways and aprons. 



• Lighting/NAVAIDS-  CMT has extensive experience in all aspects of airfield lighting, control and vault work.  A significant part of most of our aviation-related projects have involved new airfield lighting improvements to approach light systems, edge and in-pavement light systems, vault power and control, signage and PLC lighting controls.



• Structural Design- CMT structural engineers have designed manholes, trench drains and box culverts to support heavy loaded aircraft including the B-747, B-777 and B-1b aircraft.



• Fueling Facilities-  In-pavement hydrant fuel systems have been included projects designed by CMT.



• Glycol Collection-  Preventing negative environmental effects from aircraft deicing is an important issue for new aprons.  CMT has designed glycol collection measures from simply collecting the glycol in trench drains to an independent storm sewer system that directs runoff to a two-cell retention pond.



• Construction Phasing-  CMT has prepared phasing, and construction activity plans at all classifications of airports and for all sizes of aircraft.
